Robert Joseph Rea, Jr. ’62

Robert Joseph Rea, Jr. ’62 of St. Petersburg, died Sunday, September 8, 2013. Born in Anniston, AL, he moved here in 2010 from Rock Hill, SC.

Bob was a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) minister, who served as Associate Pastor at Central Presbyterian in Atlanta, GA; Associate on the Presbyterian Church U.S. Mission Board, Atlanta, GA; Heartland Presbytery Executive Presbyter Kansas City, MO; Providence Presbytery Executive Presbytery, Rock Hill, SC.

After retirement he served as Designated Associate for Peace River Presbytery, North Port. Bob was a graduate of Davidson College, Davidson, NC (B.A. in history); Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA (M.Div.); Chicago Theological Seminary, Chicago, IL (ThM. in Urban Ministry and Doctor of Religion) and received a Doctor of Divinity from Tarkio College, MO.

He was an Eagle Scout, member of Leadership Atlanta, one of the five outstanding young men of Atlanta (1972) and outstanding men of America (1971) and a Rotarian. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Joseph Rea and Helen Borchers Rea.

He is survived by his wife, Ardis O. Rea, of St. Petersburg; his daughter & son-in-law, Katherine and Daniel Sterrett of Overland Park, KS; his brother & sister-in-law, Edwin Hughston and Patricia Rea of Alpharetta, GA; cousin, Emagrace Colley of Independence, MO; daughter-in-law, Marita R. Rea of Fairfax, VA; granddaughters, Julia Araoz and Christina Rea; nieces, Tera McWhorter and Sarah Bailey; nephew, George Rea; and great-nephews, Grant, Adam and Evan.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 2050 Oak Street, Sarasota, on Wednesday, Sept. 11th, at 11 am.
