James O’ Hanlon “J.O.” Patterson, Jr. ’60

James O’ Hanlon “J.O.” Patterson, Jr. ’60 passed away July 25, 2013. Patterson was born July 28, 1938 in Norfolk, Virginia, the only child of James O’Hanlon & Phyllis Lee Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sallie Jennings Patterson; a son, James O. Patterson III & his wife Tami; granddaughters Megan & Emily Patterson; grandsons Thomas & Shawn Moran. He is predeceased by daughter Wesley Ann Patterson. J.O was involved in the financial community for many years. After graduating from Davidson College he began his career with Goodbody & Company in Charlotte, N.C. He went on to work for NC National Bank and then moved to Atlanta to work for Montag and Caldwell as a Financial Advisor. Then he and three others left and formed their own firm, Wall, Patterson, McGrew, & Richards. This company was sold to United Asset Management in the late 80s. Then J.O. went on to form J.O. Patterson and Company, a hedge fund partnership. J.O. was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club, Capital City Club, Wade Hampton and the Chattooga Club in Cashiers N. C. where Sallie and J.O. have a second home. The family will be receiving Sunday Evening from 6 until 8 O’clock, July 28 at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill. A graveside service will be held on Monday July 29 at 11O’clock at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in J.O.’s memory to the Atlanta Humane Society.
