Wilford Llewelyn Whitley, Jr., 90, of Plymouth died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Washington County Hospital in Plymouth.
Born January 8, 1923 in Washington County he was the son of the late Wilford L. Whitley, Sr. and Maude Ange Whitley. Mr. Whitley was a retired United States Department of Justice trial lawyer from 1948 to 1980.
He later worked with Jackson & Campbell of Washington, D.C. where he was retained by trial and appellate lawyers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of Hebron United Methodist Church, past president of the Plymouth Rotary Club and member of Plymouth Lions Club.
His family includes his wife, Bertha Cole Whitley of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Wilford “Lee” Whitley, III and wife Terry of Raleigh, N.C. and Ronald Augustus Whitley and wife Susan of Springfield, Virginia.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth with Gene Waters and Frank Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington. Family will receive friends at the residence.
