Arthur M. Spencer, Jr. ’45

Arthur Marshall Spencer, Jr., 89, passed away September 12, 2012 at the home of his daughter. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Arthur Marshall, Sr. and Florence Warren Spencer and husband of the late Marguarite Belk Spencer. Arthur was the owner operator of Spencer Office Supplies from 1945-1970. He attended Davidson College. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Force.

 

Arthur was a member of First ARP Church where he served as a deacon. He was very active in the Boy Scouts attaining the rank of Eagle and continued in scouting for many years and served on the Review Board. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 14, 2012 at First ARP Church with Pastor Eddie Spencer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church.

 

Survivors include his second wife, Linda Spencer; son, Arthur M. Spencer, III and wife Barbara; daughter, Penny S. Anthony and husband Richard; grandchildren, Arthur M. Spencer, IV and wife Amy, Matt Spencer and wife Sara Carter, Richard Spencer Anthony, Elizabeth Leigh Anthony; great grandchildren, Davis, Ben, Reilly, McCarthy and Porter Spencer. A special thank you from the family to Gaston Hospice and Staff and especially Callie and Ana for their help and personal care during this time.
