Dr. Numa R. Carter, Jr., 85, of Arden, died on Monday, November 21, 2011.
A native of Winston-Salem he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Davidson University and his Medical Degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He owned his own family medical practice in Shelby for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville. He was a life member of the North Carolina State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He and his wife Nancy also enjoyed hiking and traveling together.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy Carter; his four children, Eileen Carter of Weaverville, Numa “Richie” Carter, III, and his wife, Kathy, of Brevard, Clyde Carter and his wife, Wendy, of Brevard, Chris Cater and his wife, Gentry, of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Josh and Courtney Carter and Jaiden Glore; and one great-grandchild, Harvey Carter.
