Daniel Burke Kerr ’42

Daniel Burke Kerr ’42, 89, of Clinton, N.C., died at his home on Feb. 10, 2011. Kerr was born July 12, 1921, in Clinton, the son of the late Algernon Hubbard and Mary Burke Cooper Kerr. His father was a large animal veterinarian, and as a teenager, Kerr often accompanied his father on his rounds in lower Sampson County. He attended Presbyterian Junior College, Davidson, and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va. In 1945 he married Barbara Lytch, whom he met when she was playing the organ at a dedication ceremony at the Presbyterian church in Wallace, N.C. He served Presbyterian congregations in Virginia; Louisville, Ky.; Seminole, Tex.; Washington, N.C.; Savannah, Ga.; Kinston, N.C.; and West End, N.C. After retiring to Clinton, he attended Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a member of Coastal Carolina Presbytery. He and Barbara celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 12, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lytch Kerr, 410 E. Powell St., Clinton, NC 28328; his children, John Lynn Kerr (Colleen), Pat Rowlett (Pete), and Edmund Burke Kerr (Carey); and two grandchildren, Cameron Kerr and Natalie Kerr.
