John W. Maddox, Jr. ’64, 67, of Rome, Ga., passed away Sept. 14, 2010, while visiting family in Belgium. Maddox was born in Rome on Oct. 30, 1942, the son of the late John W. Maddox, Sr. and Leone Brooks Maddox Sheffield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lee Maddox Wise. He was a graduate of Shorter College and was a member of the track Hall of Fame. Maddox was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Wednesday men’s Bible study. After retirement, he remained a director of SunTrust Bank and was a former board member and current advisory board member of the Family Resource Center. He was also a member of the Rome Exchange Club. Survivors include his wife, Lynn Chumley Maddox, 162 Vinings Dr. SE, Rome, GA 30161-6281, to whom he was married Sept. 1, 1962; one daughter, Johnna Lynn Maddox; one son, John W. Maddox III (Christine); three grandchildren, John W. Maddox IV, Romain Maddox, and Emma France Maddox; one brother, Brooks Maddox (Douglas); brother-in-law, Dennis Chumley (Jane); and seven nieces and nephews.
