Elmer W. Graves ’44

Elmer W. GravesJr., husband of the late Theresa McCormick Graves, died Friday, August 15, 2008. Born in Greensboro, he attended Davidson College and served as an Army infantry officer in World War II and the Korean Conflict. In combat, he received the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters and three purple Hearts among other medals.

MrGraves was president of Dairy Farm Equipment Company, ran summer camps for All-American Sports Camps with the Baltimore Colts and was a sales rep for Marfac Company.

MrGraves was a scratch golfer, having played in numerous golf tournaments including the Southern Amateur, was a youth and junior high football coach and a wonderful athlete, excelling in all sports.

MrGraves was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church and active in the Senior Men’s Bible Study.

Surviving are son, E. Wesley Graves, III and his wife, Joan of Columbia; grandson, Scott and his wife, Lexanne; grandson, Jeff; and great-granddaughter, Anna Leigh, the love of his life.

Affectionately know as “Pop” to his family, MrGraves will be greatly missed.
