Zach S. Cowan ’42

Zachary Stuart Cowan, Jr., 85, of Atlanta, GA, died Monday, November 25, 2005.  The son of Dr. & Mrs. Z. S. Cowan, Sr. and husband of Frances Long Cowan for 51 years, Zach was a graduate of Emory University and earned a masters degree in Chemical Engineering from M.I.T.

He served in the Army and worked on the Manhattan Project at Oakridge, TN.  He worked for the DuPont Company (Bio-Chemical Dept.) till 1970, and owned Flintstone Chemical till he retired.  Zach and Frances? families joined Druid Hill Presbyterian Church in 1931.  He served as deacon and treasurer.  Zach also served in the DeKalb Medical Center Auxiliary for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughters Gayden Truluck, Shelton Knoepfel, Alison Turner; son, Zach Stuart Cowan; and six grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, at 1:30 p.m. at Druid Hills Presbyterian Church, followed by visitation in the church parlor.
