William F. Welborn, Jr. ’41

William F. Welborn, Jr. ’41 of West 2nd Ave., Lexington, died July 29, 2005. He was born in Davidson County on May 23, 1919, to William Fowle Welborn, Sr. and Bessie Todd Welborn. He was a graduate of Davidson and UNC Chapel Hill. He was a former president of Lexington Drug Co. and served on the city council for Ward 2 and was a former member of Lexington Kiwanis. During World War II, he served in the 8th U.S. Army Air Corp in photographic intelligence. He was also a member of VFW Post 3074 and American Legion Post 8. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. His wife, Geraldine Hobbs Welborn, preceded him in death on August 31, 2001. Survivors are sons, Mr. and Mrs. W.F.Welborn III, 209 W 2nd Ave., Lexington, N.C. 27292, and James Hobbs Welborn of Winston-Salem; daughter, Anna L. Welborn ’78 of Lexington; grandsons, William Brent Welborn, Matthew Welborn and Stephen Welborn; brothers, Dr. Sam Welborn ’42 of New Orleans, La.; Dr. James (J.T.) Welborn ’44 and John Henry Welborn ’49 both of Lexington.
