Stephen Lee Barden III ’67, an Asheville attorney, died June 27, 2005. He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force in Germany. He earned his law degree from UNC Chapel Hill and was certified in real estate law and had practiced in Asheville for thirty-one years. He loved music and participated in choir, chorus, band, and orchestra throughout his high school and college years. He served on the board of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and was president of the board from 1994 to 1995. He was a member of the Zeb Vance Debating Club of Asheville and was an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the Master Swim Team. He is survived by his father, Stephen L. Barden, Jr. of Montreat, N.C.; his wife of thirty-three years, Helga Stuercken Barden, 114 Old Toll Rd., Asheville, N.C. 28804; a son, Gregory, and a daughter, Diana, both of Asheville; a brother, Lane Barden; and two sisters, Mary B. Johnson and Dell Barden.
