Mr. Alford, 34, of Matthews, NC, died Wednesday January 12, 2005 at his residence. He was born January 6, 1971 in Germany and was the son of Jerilyn “ Lyn” Friend Alford and Lodwick Kirkland. Alford. Mr. Alford attended Davidson College on a basketball scholarship and graduated from the University of North Florida and received his MBA from the University of Central Florida. He was an assistant to Mr. Frank Renfrow of Matthews. Funeral services were held Monday, January 17, 2005 at Matthews Presbyterian Church, where he was a member with The Reverend Dr. John Wilkerson and Rev. Catherine George officiating. Interment was held in the Matthews Historical Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Heather Coker Alford; son, Tristan Kirkland Alford of the home; parents Kirk and Lyn Alford of Lenexa, Kansas; brother, Brett Alford of Charlotte, NC; Paternal Grandfather, Capt. Lodwick H. Alford, USN (Ret.) of Sea Island, GA; and Maternal Grandmother, Mildred Friend of Portsmouth, R.I. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina, 121 West Trade Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
