Benjamin Simons Lucas ’38

Sim grew up in Charlotte and attended Charlotte City Schools including old Central High School. He graduated from Bailey Military Academy, attended Davidson College and served with the Infantry during WWII, spending part of his time in the Philippines.

Mr. Lucas was employed by McDonald Firestone for six years, Pure Oil Company for three years, and White Motor Company for 31 years, where he started as a salesman in Charlotte in 1941.

He later became Branch Manager of the Charlotte office and in 1960 was made Regional Vice President of the Southeast Region.

In 1972 he resigned to become the founder of Lucas Truck Sales, Inc. He was a member of the Board of Directors of North & South Carolina Motor Carriers Association.

Mr. Lucas was a past president and a charter member of the Carmel Country Club, a member of the Myers Park Country Club, the York Rite Bodies, Joppa Lodge and the Oasis Shrine Temple.

He was a member of the Myers Park United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and was a member of the Luther Snyder Bible Class.

Mr. Lucas was the husband of the late Margaret Lowrance Lucas and was preceded in death by a son, Ben S. Lucas, Jr.
