Delwood Ray Barnhill ’23

Delwood Ray Barnhill III, 20, passed away on Saturday, September 25th as a result of a car accident.  He was born February 18th, 2001 in Raleigh, NC to Del and Lynn Barnhill.

Del attended East Mecklenburg High School and was a junior at Davidson College majoring in Religious Studies.  He was passionate about many topics, particularly religion, and could spend hours debating and discussing issues with his family and peers.  He loved playing games, especially Catan, disc golf, and simply hanging out.  Del was an incredibly likable person who accepted everyone and never uttered an unkind word about anyone.  He touched many people from all walks of life during his short time with us.   Del was an amazing son, brother and friend who was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his parents and younger siblings, Caroline, Campbell, and Rooks.  In addition, he is survived by his grandmothers Cecile Barnhill Crouch and Jackie Edwards; his uncle Curtis Edwards and wife Sandy, his aunt Anne Edwards Devore and husband Mark, his uncle Jimmy Edwards and wife Julie, and his aunt Candace Overton and husband Gary.  Cousins include Kristen Edwards Tiller, Anne Edwards Smith, Torey Edwards, Jess Edwards, Craig DeVore, Paige Devore, and Charlotte Overton. 

A celebration of Del’s life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, September 30th at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Rd, Charlotte, NC 28270 after which the family will receive friends outside.
